Swargadwara (A Gate to Paradise)

King Indra, captivated by the devine energy of Lord Jagannath, embarked on a journey to receive his blessings. Then he was blessed with a divine offering of 56 kinds Mahaprasad(Odia: ମହାପ୍ରସାଦ) is the term applied to the 56 food items offered to Lord Jagannath in the holy Temple of Puri) from The Anand Bajar(A Place in temple where you can get Mahaprasad) vendor. After indulging in this heavenly meal, however, he failed to pay for it as intended and started walking away towards the Singhadwara gate with no intention to return what had been offered up gracefully. Unfazed by threats and curses coming from the vendor behind him, King Indra continued on his way.

King Indra arrived at the Seashore and asked the vendor. “Do you not recognize me? I am Indra, King of Heaven! You have offered such a delightful Mahaprasad; why would money be necessary?! Allow me to fulfill any wish that your heart desires.” With open arms and an uplifted spirit he made his generous offer known.

Amazed, the vendor stood in awe of his newfound Heaven king; eagerly wishing for a special power. King Indra graciously conceded and granted him the ability to call forth rains whenever he pleased–a declaration echoed with “Tathastu!”

In a flash, a divine chariot descended out of the heavens. The trader was stunned to witness King Indra climb in with it before soaring away! Remembering this miraculous moment, he planted a wooden stick at that spot as an ode to his ethereal encounter.

That year, they suffered from a crushing drought. For those who lived in its wake, sustenance and safety were hard to come by. Desiring to put King Indra’s boon to the test, the vendor cried out for rain in Anand Bajar. What followed was said by many to be an act of spiritual blessing – and moments later, refreshing drops began cascading from above.Everyone was amazed watching this as there was rain only in Anand Bajar. All the vendors and people inside Anand bajar witnessed this and started dancing happily. The vendor again said aloud to stop the rain and surprisingly the rain stopped.

Excitement flooded the air as stories of King Indra and his miraculous boon rippled through the crowd. Drawn to a powerful mystery, eagerly they flocked towards the shores in anticipation of what lay ahead- where history had marked an earthly place for divine intervention.

This Information can’t be kept a secret from The King(King of Puri) for very long. The vendor was invited by the monarch, who then inquired at length about the gift. Everything was explained by the vendor. The King then requested for it rain on his palace that day in order to demonstrate this.

At the palace’s yard Oh King Indra, please let it rain here; my King and Queen want to see it, the merchant pleaded. Even before the merchant could finish his speech, it began to rain heavily. Once more, the merchant pleaded with King Indra to halt the rain, and it immediately did.

The vendor received clothes and ornaments from the King, who was overjoyed and gave him the honorary title of Meghamalia Suara(ମେଘମାଳିଆ ସୁଆର ). The king arranged a Prasad called Suara Pitha(ସୁଆର ପିଠା) to be offerd to Lord Jagananth as a memento of this day.

To visit the location where King Indra entered heaven, the king rode his palanquin to the beach. Meghamalia Suara guided him to the precise location. Since that day, the location has been referred to as Swarga Dwara (Heaven’s Door), the location from whence all gods travel to worship Lord Jagannath. The location is today known as Swarga Dwara, and here many saints, yogis, and people have their funeral rituals performed. If their last rites are carried out here, it is thought that they will admitted to paradise. This Swarga Dwara is one path to salvation for all Sanatanis.
